About the Director

Prof D Ram assumed the role of the Director of Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) on 17th January 2013. He has obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine & Surgery from Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi in 1982 and completed his Masters in Psychiatry from the same Institute in 1987. Prof Ram has served the institute in various capacities since 1990 and has been an accomplished teacher and an administrator. He is actively engaged in the policy making decisions with the Central Government and has been part of various expert committees.

With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Prof Ram has been a guiding force for postgraduate trainees in all the specialities and has supervised over 100 theses and dissertations in psychiatry, clinical psychology and psychiatric social work. His areas of interest include research methodology, mood disorders and psychopathology which is mirrored in his national and international publications.

Prof Ram's relentless efforts have been to achieve excellence in mental health and a vision to shape the institute into a centre of national importance. The goals of this vision have included a greater focus on manpower development, tertiary care and rehabilitation.
