Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry and Pathology is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The department is involved in diagnostics, research and teaching. The Centre for Investigational Medicine has the following equipment and machines:

  • Fully automated biochemistry analyzers (Olympus AU 680 & Beckman AU 480)– They perform therapeutic drug monitoring of various drugs such as Carbamazepine, Valproic acid, Phenytoin etc.
  • Abbott ARCHITECT PLUS- To analyze various hormones and tumor markers by Chemiluminescence method
  • Automated Hematology Analyzer (Sysmex XT 2000i) – It has 5 parts differential cell counter along with a reticulocyte counter
  • Automated Hematology Analyzer ( Abbott Cell-Dyn Ruby) –It has 5 parts differential cell counter
  • Automated ELISA processor- It is used for conducting ELISA tests for clinical and research purposes
  • Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) readers and washers– It is used for conducting ELISA tests
  • Electrolyte Analyzer– It uses ion selective electrode technology. It is used for detecting the serum levels of Sodium, Potassium, Calcium & Lithium
  • Urine chemistry Analyzer (Roche cobas u 411)
  • Semi-auto biochemistry Analyzer (3000 Evolution)
  • Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) Analyzer
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) System & High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) System- Both the systems are primarily used for research purposes
  • BD BACTECTM 9050 Blood Culture System

To operate these sophisticated gadgets, the laboratories have a team of efficient, motivated, knowledgeable and qualified doctors and technical staff who are constantly involved in producing high class results and upholding quality assurance. The greatest emphasis has been given to ensure accuracy, precision, reproducibility and speedy reporting. In the year 2017, total number of investigations that were done were 215252.
